Threshing Floor Academy™
Threshing Floor Academy of Arts and Sciences, Inc.™ was established in January of 2008 with the mission of empowering families and children, equipping them with the skills and resources needed to effectively identify and pursue their God given purpose in life. The mission of Threshing Floor Academy of Arts and Sciences, Inc.™ is currently accomplished through the provision of private and small-group children's art, music and culinary arts classes as well as small group infant and toddler music and art appreciation classes. The academy also houses a children's bookstore that provides ongoing literacy programming and quality books for children and youth. Threshing Floor Academy™ provides quality and innovative arts and literacy programming to public schools and agencies serving families and children through the provision of an Arts in Schools Program and Authors in Schools Program.
The Threshing Floor Academy Arts in Schools Program™ and Threshing Floor Academy Authors in Schools Program™ was established out of founder, Meisha Card's desire to assist schools serving children from low-income homes, in addition to starting a school of her own. Through these programs, Threshing Floor Academy™ partners with schools and child development centers that serve a large number of children from low-income households to provide quality and exceptional learning experiences to students. Such experiences work to enhance the current curriculum of each school.
The Threshing Floor Academy Children's Art Gallery™ houses bi-monthly art shows featuring work created by child Arts in Schools participants, art class participants and their instructors. The gallery also features artwork by outside artists and offers field trips where students can view artwork and dialog with artists as part of an interactive educational experience.
Over time the academy will evolve into a full fledged school that will be family focused with a heavy emphasis on the arts, community service, purpose identification and pursuit. Through the use of a comprehensive curriculum aimed at teaching the whole child and through the provision of highly effective programming for families and children, Threshing Floor AcademyTM will continue it's mission of empowering and equipping families and children with the tools and skills needed to identify and pursue their God given purpose in life. The school will house a School Partnership and Education Enhancement Center that will continue working to help enhance the curriculum of surrounding public schools and child development centers through the continuation of Arts in Schools and Authors in Schools Programming. The school will also house a Family Empowerment Center that will offer comprehensive programming to families from low-income backgrounds who reside in Fulton and Dekalb Counties. With the understanding that children are more likely to reach their full potential when supported by healthy and nurturing families and communities, services provided through the Family Empowerment Center and the School Partnerships and Education Enhancement Center will lay the foundation for the tremendous academic, spiritual, and social success that is projected to be attained by students attending the academy.
